Help us achieve our goal of raising $10,000 in René's name for pancreatic cancer research, peer support/support services and physician education.
Pancreatic cancer occurs within the tissues of the pancreas, which is a vital endocrine organ located behind the stomach. The pancreas plays an essential role in digestion by producing enzymes that the body needs to digest fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Due to the location of the pancreas, pancreatic cancer may be difficult to detect and is often diagnosed in more advanced stages of the disease.
It is estimated that in 2022:
- 6,900 Canadians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
- 5,700 Canadians will die from pancreatic cancer.
- 3,800 men will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 3,000 will die from it.
- 3,100 women will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 2,800 will die from it.
